Growlete Stories

"I can always give my best effort, and that's what I expect from myself" -Madelyn (12)

Coach Kara reminded me that mistakes are going to happen and that the best athletes learn from those mistakes and move on to the next play.

During my session with Coach Kara I realized I was setting unrealistic expectations for myself. I can’t expect to make zero mistakes, and I can’t expect to be perfect. My coaches, parents and teammates don’t expect me to be perfect, so why was I putting that pressure on myself?

Mistakes are part of the game.

She helped me build a reset routine that was personalized just for me. She created a digital document that I can open from my phone that has pregame reminders and post game support.

Coach Kara helped me understand I can’t control mistakes, but I can control my response. Now I focus on doing my best. No matter the team, sport, practice, game, or tryout—I can always give my best effort, and that’s what I expect from myself.

"Now, the car ride home is less stressful and has actually become another opportunity for us to connect and grow together." - Meghan (Mom)

First, I reached out to Coach Kara to see if she would be a good fit for what I felt my daughter needed.

We talked through her current team situation and where she could benefit most from working with Growlete. Kara was easy to talk to, and I never felt like I—or my daughter—were being judged.

It was clear she genuinely wanted to help. Knowing we were aligned in our goals made it easy to trust that she would be a great extension of what we were trying to reinforce at home.

We knew Coach Kara would support both us and our daughter in helping her reach her goals.

One area we knew we needed to improve was the car ride home. As parents, we always hear how important it is to be intentional in that moment—not to push or overstep—but with preteens and teens, that can be a hard space to navigate.

After speaking with our daughter, Kara followed up with us and shared a simple postgame tool we could use.

Now, the car ride home is less stressful and has actually become another opportunity for us to connect and grow together.
